Nepal is a Kingdom of extremes - from near sea level to the summit of Mount Everest. This landscape though  brings real  difficulties and challenges for those living  in  remote and inaccessible mountain regions.

Community Action Nepal (CAN) helps to bring long term benefits to these resourceful and proud mountain people.  CAN has established more than 50 community projects focusing on  health, water and sanitation, schools, education and cultural development. First on K2 November 2011 - A celebration of the 'Savage Mountain' with an international line up of climbers.

Visiting London, Oxford, Edinburgh and Glasgow 'First on K2' celebrated the world's second highest mountain with an outstanding line up of K2 climbers and guest speakers. Sir Chris Bonington, Jim Wickwire (USA), Nazir Sabir (Pakistan), Naoe Sakashita (Japan) and Pavel Shabalin (Russia) were just some of the climbers who spoke at the week long series of fundraising events. Sky Dance - running the Nepalese Himalaya

Dr. Lizzy Hawker is raising funds for CAN's work by running over 1000miles across the Himalaya! Her moving account of the highs and lows of this amazing journey can be read in her 'journal'  by clicking here.

 Nepalese 'Day of the Dog' Sunday September 16th 2012, Hutton in the Forest, Penrith

 

For a second year CAN is joining up with Kathmandu Contemporary Arts Centre to organise a sponsored dog walk in the Lake District. This fund-raising event celebrates Kukur Tihar, the Nepalese Day of the Dog, and will be held at Hutton in the Forest, near Penrith by kind permission of Lord and Lady Inglewood.

 CAN's  achievements  recognised by Nepal Tourism Board - June 2011

Doug Scott receives the 2011 Piolet d'Or Lifetime Achievement Award

 Doug Scott's lifetime contribution to mountaineering was recognised at the Piolet d'Or awards ceremony on April 16th  in Courmayeur, Italy. Click here to find out more about the award and  Doug's thoughts on receiving such an honour. 

Opening of new Health Post at Melamchigaun and school hostel at Bahrabise School January 2011

 Doug and Trish Scott and Trustee Dr. Rob Lorge  enjoyed two weeks in Nepal in January to perform the official opening of two of CAN's most recent projects - the new health post at Melamchigaun, to compliment the CAN school and the opening of a much needed hostel at CAN's school for the deaf at Bahrabise. A full report and pictures will be posted shortly of these  events and a summary of important meetings with village committees from as far away as Lihi Gaun in North Gorka.

FIRST on EVEREST, a series of unique and  very special fundraising events for the work of CAN and Promise Nepal in November 2010, raised over £46,000 to help fund our health, education and welfare projects.
